Dallas and known as the "Antique Capital of Texas", Forney is a small town with the desire to retain the hometown feel. Located just 30 minutes from Dallas, Forney is a great place to call home.
If you’re interested in local history, you can visit the Spellman Museum of Forney History. Founded in 2001 by the Forney Historic Preservation League, this museum houses a collection of WWII artifacts including paintings, sketches and drawings. Topics include Native Americans, wildlife, early settlers, agricultural industry, the Great Depression and more!
The Forney Independent School District (FISD) serves Forney, Talty, an annex of
Mesquite, and part of the community of Heartland. Forney is served by several schools including, Warren Middle School, Brown Middle School, Forney High School and North Forney High School. The district is also known for its eBook program, where students in high school, middle school and elementary school are provided with a laptop for schoolwork starting in the fifth grade.
Forney is home to The Gentle Zoo, a children’s petting zoo. Animals include llamas, cockatoos, peacocks, tortoises, emus, goats, kangaroos, coatimundis, capybaras, pigs, lizards, chinchillas and more! In addition to the wonderful animals, The Gentle Zoo also has a playground, picnic area, indoor party room, classroom, train ride, and giant maze. There are also fun seasonal events like the pumpkin patch and a Holiday Magic event.
To cool down in the summertime, locals enjoy Forney Community Park. This beautiful park is extremely spacious and has a splash pad, large playground, soccer fields and a walking path. There is also a small outdoor amphitheater for events and concerts.
