Recognized as the birthplace of the Lone Star Flag, Montgomery resides in the county of the same name and is one of the oldest towns in Texas. This small community sits less than 10 miles from Lake Conroe and is only a short drive to neighboring cities of
Conroe and
The Woodlands. Montgomery County is on Interstate 45, forty miles north of downtown
Houston in the East Texas Timberlands Region. To the north of Montgomery is Walker county and San Jacinto county, to the east is Liberty County, to the south is Harris County and to the west is Waller county and Grimes county.
Residents of Montgomery love living in their community while taking advantage of all the entertainment and dining nearby areas have to offer. One of the most popular parks is Memory Park. Originally a community project coordinated by Montgomery County, this park is complete with naturalized Texas trees and plants, walking trails, benches for relaxing, fountain bridges, pavilions, specialized gardens, a nesting duck area and waterfalls surrounding a large pond. A large majority of plants and items inside the park have been donated by families in memory of loved ones. The park also has a Shakespeare garden, as well as various statues honoring veterans of World War II.
Almost all students in Montgomery fall within the Montgomery Independent School District. Schools include Lone Star Elementary, Montgomery Elementary, Madeley Ranch Elementary, Keenan Elementary School, Stewart Creek Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Montgomery Junior High, Oaks Hills Junior High, Lake Creek High School and Montgomery High School.
Locals also enjoy the Montgomery County Preserve located on Pruitt Road. It is a wonderful area for bird watching, native plant observation and hiking. This 71-acre of greenery is rich in historical value and open to the public. It also hosts several national butterfly counts as well as education programs for area citizens.
