Originally founded with the name Presswood in 1862, New Caney now rests in Montgomery County, about a 30-minute drive from downtown
Houston. New Caney originally housed cattle ranches, mills and a variety of stores around Caney Creek. From a population of 60 people in 1884, New Caney has certainly grown in size and development since then. Today, New Caney is chock-full of things to do outside for the nature explorer at heart and is home to about 20,000 residents.
Students in the area are zoned for New Caney Independent School District. New Caney Independent School District includes eighteen schools on the elementary, middle and high school level combined. NCISD teachers have 10 years or more of teaching experience on average. Continued training and education is not only encouraged for teachers and staff on NCISD staff, but is required in most cases.
