Texas has many legendary lakes to enjoy, but here are some of our favorites.

Lake Travis

Lake Travis is one of the most popular lake day destinations for Texans and tourists visiting the Austin area. Many of the shores around this Central Texas lake are popular destinations that feature boutique shopping, wine tasting, craft breweries and other entertainment.

If you are looking for something more laid-back and quiet, there are plenty of campgrounds you can visit to enjoy hiking, fishing, boating and more. You can find some of the most beautiful views of Lake Travis at Mansfield Dam Park, a secluded cove perfect for scuba diving and fishing.

Lake Texoma

Those closer to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex can find Lake Texoma, one of the United States' largest reservoirs. Texoma is a premier Texas lake for bass fishing and is home to over 70 other species of fish. In fact, one Lake Texoma fisher pulled a 120-lb blue catfish, which set a world record at the time.

Due to its sheer size, you will find a diverse selection of entertainment all along the Texoma shoreline. Spend the day golfing and relaxing at any of the courses and hotels along this Texas lake. There are also several marinas, boat rentals and fishing ventures ready to water-lover out on the lake for some fun in the sun.

Caddo Lake

Caddo Lake may not be as big as the other two lakes we have mentioned, but it is full of stunning natural wonders and diverse wildlife. Located on the border between Texas and Liousanna, Caddo Lake features several bayous and ponds draped in Spanish moss with towering cypress trees overhead.

This is the perfect Texas lake for the explorer looking to get away from more touristy locations. Enjoy fishing, paddling and hiking – or rent one of many historic cabins built over 80 years ago. You can also rent a canoe or kayak and travel along more than 50 miles of paddling trails.
