Perry Homes Partners With Building Homes for Heroes

At Perry Homes, we have always held a firm belief in the importance of giving back to the communities in which we build. That is why we partnered with Building Homes for Heroes to construct a new home specially designed and built for a local combat veteran. Learn more about the national non-profit and how we are helping one of our nation’s heroes.

What Is Building Homes for Heroes?

Building Homes for Heroes is a national non-profit that builds and gifts mortgage-free homes to veterans and their families. In addition to completing home modifications, they provide further services along each veteran’s road to recovery to help them live a fulfilling life.

The idea for Building Homes for Heroes came shortly after founder Andy Pujol volunteered in the search and rescue that occurred in the days following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. After working side-by-side with first responders, Pujol pledged to make the country a better place by serving our nation’s heroes.

Thirteen years later, Building Homes for Heroes has gifted over 225 homes to injured veterans. With continued support from communities and corporations, the non-profit hopes to reach its 300th home by 2021 and its 500th home by 2025.

A Home For Sgt. Kristopher Biggs

In August, Perry Homes teamed up with Building Homes for Heroes to break ground on a specialized home for Army veteran Sgt. Kristopher Biggs, who was severely injured during his second tour in Iraq. He was awarded the Purple Heart, among other prestigious honors, for his dedication and service.

The new house — located in Wolf Ranch by Hillwood Communities — will be built to accommodate the needs of Sgt. Biggs. The community, which sits less than a mile from the intersection of Hwy 29 and I-35, offers residents easy access to trails, state-ofthe-art amenities and local retail. School-aged residents will attend highly-ranked schools in the Georgetown ISD. Additionally, Wolf Ranch’s Lifestyle Director hosts several events for the community throughout the year.

We are working closely with Hillwood Communities and Building Homes for Heroes to craft a 1,800- square-foot house that features three bedrooms and two bathrooms in addition to an extended covered patio backyard and private home office. Construction modifications will include custom kitchen cabinetry, wider hallways, an adapted primary bathroom shower and other safety features designed for Sgt. Biggs. The home is expected to be completed later this month.

“Perry Homes is honored to have the opportunity to construct a new, carefully-crafted home for Sergeant Kristopher Biggs, a true American hero,” said Chris Little, Perry Homes City President, Austin/San Antonio, in a press release. “Perry Homes greatly values the sacrifice our servicemen and women make every day in this country and around the world. They represent one of our core ‘Champion Charities.’ We are also excited to partner with Building Homes for Heroes and Hillwood Communities to give back to this dedicated veteran, and hope it allows this Hero to have a more comfortable, personalized living experience in his new home.”

Perry Homes is proud to be a part of such an amazing partnership with Building Homes for Heroes and to be able to use our 50+ years of building and design experience to custom build homes for disabled veterans.
