Perry Homes Breaks Ground On Home For Purple Heart Recipient With New Partners Building Homes For Heroes & Hillwood Communities

New Home to be Specially Designed and Built for Combat Veteran in Wolf Ranch by Hillwood Communities

AUSTIN, August 27, 2020 — Perry Homes, Building Homes for Heroes, and Hillwood Communities recently broke ground on the construction of a specialized home for Army veteran Sgt. Kristopher Biggs, who was severely injured while serving overseas. This is the first time the three organizations have partnered together to construct a new home for a wounded veteran. This marks Perry Homes’ twelfth specially built home to be donated to an injured soldier. The new home, located in Wolf Ranch by Hillwood Communities, will be built specifically to accommodate the individual needs of Sgt. Biggs.

We hope he makes many wonderful memories here for years to come.” Sergeant Biggs served in the military for seven years, which included two deployments to Iraq. During his second tour, Sgt. Biggs was injured in an explosion that rendered him unconscious, leading to traumatic brain and leg damage. He spent many years working to salvage his leg before it was ultimately amputated. Since then, Sgt. Biggs has become heavily involved in various adaptive sports endeavors – particularly adapted surfing.

Biggs. “I could not be more appreciative, and I’m looking forward to taking advantage of the community’s modern amenities and lifestyle programs. I can’t wait to sit outside on the outdoor patio and grill up some Texas barbeque with my neighbors. I know I’ll feel right at home here in Georgetown.”

Perry Homes is working closely with Building Homes for Heroes and Hillwood Communities to design a handicap-accessible 1,800 sq. ft. home featuring three bedrooms and two bathrooms, in addition to a private home office and an extended covered backyard patio. Some construction modifications will include an adapted primary bathroom shower, custom kitchen cabinetry, wider hallways, and other safety features designed for Sgt. Biggs. The specialized Perry home is expected to be completed by December.

The nationally syndicated Bobby Bones Show has also been a major contributor to this home project, raising more than $110,000 through the show’s #PIMPINJOY movement. This philanthropic campaign, spearheaded by American radio and television personality Bobby Jones, is dedicated to helping neighbors in need. Funds raised through the movement’s merchandise page, The Shop Forward, will be donated to modify and design the new home specifically for Sgt. Biggs.
