Explore How Perry Homes Gives Back to the Community

Perry Homes has always believed in the importance of giving back to the communities in which we build. This passion for serving others led CEO Kathy Britton to establish the Perry Homes Foundation to better support our youth, education system and military members. Explore what the Foundation is and how we are helping communities in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.

What Is the Perry Homes Foundation?

The Perry Homes Foundation was founded in 2017 by Perry Homes CEO Kathy Perry Britton. Its core mission is to support initiatives that:

  • Benefit those who are less fortunate
  • Create educational opportunities for students
  • Enhance the beauty and sustainability of local parks and communities

The Foundation partners with three main charities, referred to as our “champions,” that focus on better serving our youth, education system and military members. We also support several other charitable groups through collaborative programs, scholarships, fundraising efforts and donations. Since 2017, the Perry Homes Foundation has donated over $4 million to charitable causes across the Lone Star State.

Meet Our Champions

Now that you know the history of the Perry Homes Foundation, it is time to meet our champions:

Helping a Hero

Founded in 2006, Helping a Hero is a Houston-based nonprofit organization that supports military personnel severely injured in the Post 9-11 Global War on Terror. They provide specially adapted homes for qualifying service members through partnerships made with builders, developers, communities and veterans.

Perry Homes has worked with Helping a Hero to construct over 10 specialized homes for wounded veterans. The most recent home was built for Army veteran Sgt. Kristopher Biggs, who was severely injured during his second tour in Iraq. Some adaptations included custom kitchen cabinetry, wider hallways, accessible primary bathroom showers and other features to enable Sgt. Biggs’ independence.

Houston Parks Board

The Houston Parks Board works to connect all Houstonians through public green spaces. Its mission is to create, improve, protect and advocate for parks for everyone. To date, the Houston Parks Board has supported over 250 parks and developed more than 14,000 acres of new parks and trails.

In 2021, Perry Homes partnered with the City of Houston and the Houston Parks Board to sponsor the city’s 50/50 Park Partners initiative. We pledged $2 million to benefit multi-year initiatives that aim to improve Houston’s neighborhood parks and transform underutilized land along the city’s major waterways into linear parks.

Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation

The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation is a charitable organization created by the Bush family to improve the quality of life through the power of literacy. Perry Homes sponsors the My Home Library at Lewis Elementary School. Through this partnership, each student receives six new books that they can take home. Then, our employee volunteers distribute these books to the students.

Giving back to the communities in which we build is an important part of Perry Homes’ Tradition of Excellence.
